Hey new followers! Thought I would post a little “hello!” photo of me as Zatanna from San Diego Comic Con :]

I just had to get down by the water for some shots in NYC. We jumped over a barricade and a “NO TRESPASSING” sign to get right down to the Hudson River. Excuse me while I get extremely emotional about comics
You can really never underestimate the power of words. I met Greg Rucka, the writer of Batwoman Elegy last Sunday at NYCC. I was in my Batman pin up outfit, feeling a little out of place holding a stack of Detective Comics in line for a Marvel exclusive group signing! I finally got up to Greg, he spotted my stack of comics and waved me over. It was such a blur, I barely remember what we said! I distinctly remember telling him how nervous I was! I remember stammering out something about how incredible the writing was and thanking him for doing such an amazing job. He doted on J.H. Williams III art and I remember saying that it was all beautiful and how much I loved it all. I told him how inspired I was to make a Batwoman costume and how badly I wanted to meet him while wearing it. I really couldn’t eloquently put into words how much I loved his work but I believe I got my point across well enough. :] After signing all the single issues of Batwoman I had (unfortunately, not all of them), he asked if I wanted my trade paperback of Batwoman Elegy personalized. I told him my name, (he made sure he was spelling “Alex” correctly) and I spotted him writing a little more than a “To Alex” signature. I remember thanking him again profusely and I asked to shake his hand. (I was too nervous to ask someone else in line to take a photo of us together, plus I wasn’t wearing Batwoman!) We did and then I scooped up my comics and ducked out of line. I flipped open my trade and read this:
“To Alex,
Live with Pride
Serve with Honor
Love with Abandon
Best always, Greg Rucka”
And then I immediately started crying. I couldn’t help it! Reading those words written on my copy of Batwoman Elegy meant more than I can say. I might not be a badass, ex-military superhero fighting crime in Gotham City, but Kate Kane is someone real to me. She’s ferociously loyal and full of honor and pride. And while at times she may be fueled by anger, she always loves with abandon. And those things, I adore most. Her strength of character is something I aspire to, and (I would like to say), can relate to.
This book makes me feel strong, unstoppable, amazing. People might say, “Oh they’re just comic books” but they’re so much more than that. They’re incredible stories about real people and they’ve changed my life for the better. Say what you want about us nerds. What Greg wrote to me moved me to tears then and is right now.
Those words are words I will live by and will never forget.
Thanks for making my NYCC incredible, Greg.

I just got “The Brave and the Bold #33: Wonder Woman, Zatanna and Batgirl” as a gift tonight. What wonderful writing and a beautiful comic.
Another reason that Zatanna is one of my FAVORITE ladies in comics. She has an obscene amount of power and it’s a horrible burden when she does have visions of the future. She knows to not be immature and try to change fate. So instead she just wants to make sure Babs has a wonderful night dancing with her friends before she no longer can. She cares so much. ;~; Totally cried. Oh my goodness, Zee. I love you
